Come, thou Fount of every blessing,
tune my heart to sing thy grace;
streams of mercy, never ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it,
mount of thy redeeming love.
Here I raise mine Ebenezer;
hither by thy help I'm come;
and I hope, by thy good pleasure,
safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
wandering from the fold of God;
he, to rescue me from danger,
interposed his precious blood.
O to grace how great a debtor
daily I'm constrained to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love;
here's my heart, O take and seal it,
seal it for thy courts above. Tuesday, September 6, 2011
Come Thou Fount
Below are the lyrics for a hymn that I recently discovered I really love. Funny as that sounds, I've known this song for as long as I can remember but I guess I never really thought over the lyrics and amazing truths found there. These old hymns are packed with so much doctrine and we often overlook them because of their "old sound". Honestly, I think the "old sounds" aids in bringing your attention to what your are saying and less the notes you are singing. You don't have to worry so much about keeping time, making sure you hit that way high then way low notes, you can sing the simple (but beautiful) melody and focus and the words coming out of your mouth. But then that's just my take on it. =) My life hasn't been riddled with trials of late, in fact quite the opposite. However, it never hurts to be reminded of the blessings God has poured down on us here on earth. Just read the lyrics to the song and really think about what they are saying. They are fantastic!
