Once a week...

So I really have not much to say... but I said I would try and post once a week... I hate those rambling posts people have... but it's looking like that is what this is developing into... Ok... hmmm....

Well, Awana starts at our church on wednesday and I'm terribly excited.  I've missed seeing those girls (I help with the 3-5 grade girlies, TNT) every week and getting an update on whats new with them.  I look forward to helping them learn and understand their verses each week.  Understanding mainly.  So often it seems like they just memorize the verse to get the section signed off and the pin on their badge.  But then I remember being there.  I remember stumbling and scrambling through my sections each week so I could earn that coveted trophy at the end of the year.  Sadly I remember very few of what I "memorized" so very long ago.  I really want my girls to think about what they are reciting, to hide in their heart the treasure of the words they are scrambling to memorize.  I hope that I can make some impact, eternal impact, on these girls this year.  If you think about it pray for them, not just my 3-5 grade girlies, but all the kids coming to club that they would really think about the words they are memorizing and reciting back to the leaders.  Pray that us leaders will take any opportunity we see to explain to them and make sure they understand what they are saying.  Oh and for patience... my mom said never to pray for patience unless you are ready to be tested...lol. Well, I'm ready Lord, help me to have patience with the screaming and squealing little rascals You send to club each week. =)

OH, we had amazing weather today! sadly I wasn't able to really experience it... I was stuck inside my office building staring at a computer screen.  Hopefully someday I won't be stuck inside 40 hrs a week... but we'll see.

Funny story... I stopped by my sisters house after work to pick something up from her.  My 4 yr old nephew was standing up to the kitchen counter ready to help his momma made some "special candy bars".  After looking over the ingredients I asked him if he was making granola bars.  Apparently my words weren't as clear as I intended because he immediately corrected me and informed me that they were making "boy bars" and maybe they would make some "girl bars" too... hahaha, oh how I love that kid!

Come Thou Fount

Below are the lyrics for a hymn that I recently discovered I really love. Funny as that sounds, I've known this song for as long as I can remember but I guess I never really thought over the lyrics and amazing truths found there. These old hymns are packed with so much doctrine and we often overlook them because of their "old sound". Honestly, I think the "old sounds" aids in bringing your attention to what your are saying and less the notes you are singing. You don't have to worry so much about keeping time, making sure you hit that way high then way low notes, you can sing the simple (but beautiful) melody and focus and the words coming out of your mouth. But then that's just my take on it. =) My life hasn't been riddled with trials of late, in fact quite the opposite. However, it never hurts to be reminded of the blessings God has poured down on us here on earth. Just read the lyrics to the song and really think about what they are saying. They are fantastic!

Come, thou Fount of every blessing,
 tune my heart to sing thy grace;
 streams of mercy, never ceasing,
 call for songs of loudest praise.
 Teach me some melodious sonnet,
 sung by flaming tongues above.
 Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it,
 mount of thy redeeming love.

 Here I raise mine Ebenezer;
 hither by thy help I'm come;
 and I hope, by thy good pleasure,
 safely to arrive at home.
 Jesus sought me when a stranger,
 wandering from the fold of God;
 he, to rescue me from danger,
 interposed his precious blood.

 O to grace how great a debtor
 daily I'm constrained to be!
 Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
 bind my wandering heart to thee.
 Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
 prone to leave the God I love;
 here's my heart, O take and seal it,
 seal it for thy courts above.

It's been awhile...

Wow, over a month since my last post. oopsies!
Summer is almost over, only limited wakeboarding trips left. *sad*
Football is oh so close, I can almost smell it! *GO BIG RED*
Before we know it winter and snow will be upon us and we'll be making Christmas lists.

It seems like life has been going non-stop,
yet when I stop and think about what I've been doing I can name it all in about 1 minute...
lets see...
I've been working
I've been going to church
I've been hanging out with friends
that about covers it. =)

So until I have more to say, I just wanted to check and make sure everyone knows I haven't forgotten about this blog.  I really do intend to get back to posting once or twice a week, but I make no promises.
(last night was the first time in nearly 1 month that I've made it to the gym...)
my consistency needs work. ah well...

Just let me get this off my chest...

OK, I get moms are busy… it's a full time job, they never get a lunch break, their work follows them home... and so on and so forth.
Now I love all my mommy friends. Someday I hope to have my own family to be able to follow the amazing example so many of them have set out before me... but let me just say this...
Sometimes it gets a little old hearing this from all my mom friends.  I realize that being a mom and wife is hard work. I realize those little rascals test your patience.  I realize that having a husband can grate on you some days more that make you smile (or at least this is what I've been told by all my married friends).  But as a single girl wanting very much to be married and have my own little rascals sometimes, it's very hard to listen to.
I have so many "mommy" friends that tell me they would love to have the single life back again, they miss the freedom... but do they really?  Would you really want to give up those adorable little crazies crawling all over you just begging for your attention?  You really don't want the husband who yes, leaves his socks in the middle of the living room floor but also pulls you into his arms at the end of the day just because?
So to my mommy friends;  Being married and a mother may be hard but please remember that there are some of us single ladies who, while we love to hear about your crazy days and want to encourage in any way we can, it frusterates us to hear about how "mundane" your married life is.
I have to get up and be to work by 8.  I'm not home until 5:30 at night.  I can't sleep in til 10 if me and kids had a late night the night before (ok so I realize with little ones this is rare, but then me sleeping in is rare too).  There is no one waiting on me to get home every day.  I still have to do my laundry, I cook meals (cooking for one is not so much fun), I have to clean my house... but I have no husband to do all that for, I have no tiny little socks and shirts to fold along with all my laundry.  I know that means I can get away without doing laundry for weeks on end... i can eat a bowl of fruit for supper if I don't feel like cooking... a messy house only bothers me (well, my roomies too)... but sometimes, just once, I'd like someone to do all that for.
I'm not trying to throw myself a pity party, I know God has my life in His control (thanks goodness!) and I know that I am single right now cause that's where God wants me to be, and usually I'm ok with that.  But sometimes, I'm just saying.  However hard and unrewarding you like to say being a wife and mother is I would just love to be in your shoes somedays...

on a somewhat related note... this song was sang in church on yesterday.  I love the chorus...

Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free
Bring me anything that brings You glory
And I know there'll be days
When this life brings me pain
But if that's what it takes to praise You
Jesus, bring the rain

Those lines in orange are the ones that really stuck out to me. "Bring me anything that brings you glory".  Is that really the prayer of my life?  Am I willing to undergo anything (singleness) just to bring Him glory?  I pray that I am able to change my attitude and have that heart!

So if you think of me today it would be much appreciated if you would keep me in your prayers (our pastor taught on the importance of prayer yesterday, such an amazing reminder! Even Paul realized he couldn't operate as God wanted him without the prayer of fellow believers).
**I'm trying my bestest to be content but, somedays, being single and having my freedom is a great joy, somedays it's a struggle... today it's a struggle.

Someday Husband

So I ran across this blog yesterday. This gal had "letters", ok more like random notes, to her future husband.  The rest of her blog is a little... shall we say, "off", but these little snippets made me chuckle. Like this one ->

dear husband-to-be,
at this point i make a mean cup of coffee, am relatively adept around the kitchen, and my boobs will only stay perky for so long.
hurry up.
xo,
yours

Anyway, it made me laugh. =)

It got me started thinking of little things I'd like to remember to tell my one day hubby, stuff I'd tell him or do with  him were he around right now.
So now, I think, on occasion, I may add the random letter to that special man who I'm sure is wondering hopelessly around out there just searching for me. =)
 ~or at least that's what I like to tell myself.

AAAAANd TO START IT OFF

Dear One day Hubby,
I want to have picnic lunches, often.  There is just something completely nostalgic about a picnic.  I remember taking out picnic lunches to my dad in the field when we were young and it was the highlight of our week!  So despite your profession, somedays, when it is just lovely outside, I'll bring you a picnic lunch.  =)

Sincerly,
me

the best intentions

So when I started this blog I had the best intentions.  I was going to show all those blogging friends of mine how easy it is to stay current and up to date, even posting every other day... and I was oh so wrong.  It seems some how or another time just gets away from you and before you realize, it's July and you haven't posted anything for two months.  Not that I have hundreds of readers waiting on my next words.  Heck I barely have three readers.  But that is ok by me.  This is mainly a place for me to spew my thoughts onto the page in order to better sort things out in my head.  =)  It seems when everything is down in written form it's somehow easier to sort things out and discover solutions to life's unsolvable problems.

So what has been new of late to me? Well not much really.  I'm thouroughly enjoying going to the farmers market every saturday.  It's a collection of local vendors in Lincolns Haymarket.  So far there hasn't been much for produce but I'm hoping by tomorrow there will be more than crafty booths and pastry's available for sale.  Not that I haven't partaken in a few of the pastries, I have enjoyed them immensley!  But I'm lookin forward to the fresh crisp veggies straight out of the garden. YUM!

Lets see... what else...

Oh I've been wakeboarding!!! Yes, only a handful of times so far but I'm hoping that will change soon!  We haven't had perfect conditions yet but when you live in NE you just kinda have to take what you can get. =) On tues night I went out with the fam and had one nice long run (after some tubing action earlier in the evening) and then was completely pooped.  My abs and neck have been aching something terrible the past couple days, I'd forgotten how much of a workout wakeboarding is. But I LOVE it!

So the 4th of July is this weekend. I absolutely LOVE that holiday.  It's so laid back and just exciting and fun. Plus I always enjoy watching the "older boys" play with their fireworks.  I think it's almost more entertaining than the actual explosion, their reaction that is.

Well I've managed one short little blip of life entered onto my blog... and now I must get back to real life.

Happy Independence Day to you all!

a quick hello

No, I've not forgotten about this blog just been keepin busy!  Doing what I haven't the foggiest but every night I've been falling into bed totally exhausted.  If I ever get married and have kids I have no idea how I'll survive. ;) Seriously, those moms that work full time and have little children... how do they do it?  Speaking of moms I have   a whole new respect for my sister, she is an amazing mommy to two little munchkins.
aren't they just the cutest

She was singing in choir for our church Good Friday service and she had to be there by 5:15. Since I live right across the street from church I skeedaddled home from work (her hubby didn't get off til a little after 5) so I could watch her crazy boys and then it was my responsibility to get them three block to church in time.  First getting ready, or trying to get ready, with a 3 1/2 and almost 2 yr old running around my house, getting into everything (no, my house is not little boy proofed), not an easy feat!  Then I'm thinking, well it only takes me 3 min to get to church, I'll allow 15 min. We walked out my door at 20 til to get in the car and drive 3 blocks... we pulled into the church parking lot at 2 til... someone please tell me what took us so long to travel such a short distance?? The phenomenon that is little boys...
As crazy as those two are you can't help but love em.  I mean look at those cheeks!
and that messy little smile.

makes you just want to scoop them up and who cares how late they make you, right? =)

Oh, on another note.  The upside to being single, you can take off on a trip whenever you darn well please (assuming you have an amazing boss like mine who lets you take off almost whenever you please)
Me and my roommates will be heading to Florida!! Sunny Florida! yaaaaah!

I plan on much sun bathing and swimming in the clear blue ocean!  I've never been in the ocean before so this is going to be grand, I'm sure of it.  And the weather looks like it's going to be in the 90s while we are there. aaaaah, sooo nice!  Now to pack my bag and be up in time for our 6am flight out of Omaha! (I am NOT a morning person!)
